Upon completion of the Medical Assistant program, the student will possess the knowledge and skills required in the areas of anatomy, physiology and pathology of the body systems, medical terminology, medical front office procedures, EKG and laboratory diagnostic procedures and clinical skills to function successfully in an entry level job as a Medical Assistant in a clinic or physician’s office.

You will be able to perform the following tasks:

1. All phases of the patient handling, patient flow and preparation, including taking and recording of vital signs; taking medical histories and charting; preparation and positioning/draping for various examinations and procedures; assisting with minor surgery, dressing and bandages, special tests and procedures.

2. All phases of office communications, both oral and written, office bookkeeping, billings, credit and collections, indexing and filing, professional insurance, medical law and ethics, the use and care of business machines.

3. All phases of electrocardiograph including patient preparation, machine preparation, placement of leads and mounting of 12-lead electrocardiogram.

4. Medications and pharmacology, injection techniques, measurement, precautions and interaction of drugs.

5. Sterilization procedures and aseptic techniques.

6. Office emergencies and CPR.

7. Laboratory procedures such as urinalysis, hematology procedures, collection of specimens and cultures.

8. Venipuncture collection of venous blood and preparation of specimens to be sent to the laboratory for testing.

9. Practical knowledge of the anatomy and pathology of the body system.

10. Practice knowledge of immunology and microbiology.

11. Knowledge of basic IV therapy procedures.
