Course Information:

· 18-month continuing education program that is divided into four sections for a total of 882 hours = 88.2 CEU’s.
· Admission requirements include a high school diploma or GED, and an acceptable score in English and Math on the ASSET or COMPASS test.
· A working knowledge of keyboarding or typing is recommended.
· Upon successful completion of this course you will be eligible to take the American Association of Medical Assistants Certification Exam

Topics Include:

· Patient reception
· Appointment scheduling
· Bookkeeping and basic accounting
· Insurance, coding and billing
· Collections
· Maintain Medical Records
· Patient charting
· Preparing patients for examinations
· Explaining treatment procedures
· Assisting during the examinations
· Administering medications
· Perform diagnostic procedures
· Drawing blood
· Performing basic laboratory tests
· Assisting with minor surgery
· Changing wound dressings
· Suture removal
· Facility maintenance – ordering and restocking supplies

Schedule

Classes meet two evenings a week from 6 – 9 pm and every other Saturday
9 am – 4 pm. Additionally there are 3 two week internships during the last 3 sections of the program.
