Disaster Site Safety
Hurricane Katrina and the World Trade Center cleanup taught us many lessons – especially concerning worker safety during disaster response. CIMI has a broad range of course offerings on worker safety issues during critical incident response. Topics such as mold cleanup, animal hazards, tree trimming, electrical safety and sanitation are designed to give disaster site worker the knowledge they need to perform their work safety. Online safety modules include Bloodborne Pathogens, Fall Protection, Hazard Communication, Lock Out/Tagout, Respiratory Protection, Trenching and Shoring, and Walking and Working Surfaces. These modules may be combined to meet training requirements for OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program General Industry or Construction Industry 10-Hour training, which is also offered in a traditional classroom setting.
HazMat Emergency Response
Federal OSHA, DOT and EPA regulations require specific training for personnel that respond to and handle chemical spill incidents. These are often referred to as the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Repose (HAZWOPER) training requirements. CIMI offers awareness level training for those that need to be able to recognize a chemical accident, operations and technician level courses for employees who respond to the spill, and incident command training for those who manage the response.
NIMS and Incident Command Training
The National Incident Management System (NIMS) is a coordinated approach or standardizing the national response to domestic disasters. As an important component of NIMS, the Incident Command System (ICS) has been adopted by many states as their standard for emergency management and is often a prerequisite for the allocation of federal disaster funding.
Environmental Remediation
Asbestos, Lead, Mold and other toxic materials have special handling requirements that are often triggered by federal and state regulations, even during incident responses. CIMI offers EPA-approved asbestos and lead training for workers, supervisors, project designers, inspector, management lanners, and risk assessors. Mold certification prep courses for workers, supervisor and indoor environmentalists are approved by the Indoor Air Quality Association; attendees who meet experience and education pre-qualifications will also be eligible to take American Indoor Air Quality Council (AMIAQC) examinations upon completion of these courses.
